More about the Media

Our media material has been tested and demonstrated the capacity to absorb phosphorus at overwhelmingly higher volumes than other natural and manufactured products through lab and field testing in the United States. The media removes soluble phosphorus at both high and low concentrations, so it can be effective for treating wastewater or lower levels found in lakes, streams and agriculture water runoff. The phosphorus can be lowered below 0.01 mg/L (ppm), making it ideal for many applications.

Ligands are involved to attract and capture the phosphorus,  these are short-chained organics that are used with the nano-iron oxyhydroxide (~40 nm). Testing conducted by the Michigan State University (MSU) shows that all soluble phosphorus ions are captured.

Unique Capabilities for phosphorus filter Include:

  • Holds much more phosphorus than other products
  • Effective at both high and low concentrations
  • Water passes thru filter material at low pressures
  • pH remains stable for good process control
  • The material is 80% porous creating a significant surface area to which attract the phosphorus nutrients
  • Functions much like you home forced air furnace filter but for lakes.
  • physically removes phosphorus from the water instead of simply sequestering it.
  • Our systems is optimized for continually loaded environments where fresh phosphorus is constantly being introduced into the waterbody.
